L. M. Montgomery published 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays. Her novel, Anne of Green Gables, was an immediate success. Her work, diaries, and letters have been read and studied by scholars and readers worldwide.
Montgomery was honoured by King George V as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE); there were no Canadian orders, decorations or medals for civilians until the 1970s.
